The purpose of the Skills Development is to improve the quality of life of workers, their prospects of work, labour mobility and to encourage workers to participate in learnership and other training programmes. Doing so will also benefit the employers by improving productivity in the workplace and the competitiveness of employers. The Skills Development Act encourages employers to use the workplace as an active learning environment by providing employees with the opportunities to acquire new skills and experience and to help those previously disadvantaged.
