🗺️ THE RICHJERK™ VS. THE UNEMPLOYED CEO™

📊 DISPATCH №34: I STOPPED MARKETING. THE INTERNET DIDN’T STOP VISITING.

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped aggressively marketing Kasi Connect.

No daily promotions.

No WhatsApp-group campaigns.

No “PLEASE LIST YOUR BUSINESS!” speeches. 😂

I wanted to test one thing:

Can the platform attract visitors without me personally pushing every click?

The latest 7-day numbers:

👥 62 visitors

👀 91 page views

🔎 18 Google visitors

📍 36 Direct visitors

📉 86% bounce rate

Is 62 visitors a massive victory?

Absolutely not.

Is an 86% bounce rate a problem?

Absolutely.

But something important happened:

🌐 Google still found the platform.

📍 People still reached township/service pages.

🔎 Visitors still discovered Kasi Connect without a constant promotional push.

That’s the experiment.

Because there is a difference between:

📣 Traffic I personally drag onto the website

and

🔎 Traffic the internet discovers organically.

RichJerk™ asked:

«“So you're celebrating 62 visitors and an 86% bounce rate?”»

The Unemployed CEO™ replied:

«“No. I’m studying the evidence.”»

😂

The real goal isn't just more traffic.

It's:

Discovery → Enquiry → Trust → Transaction → Delivery → Data → Intelligence

One indexed page.

One township.

One service.

One business listing at a time.

🏪 Kasi entrepreneurs: don't wait for customers to magically find you. Build your digital footprint.

🗺️ THE RICHJERK™ VS. THE UNEMPLOYED CEO™

📊 DISPATCH №34: “I STOPPED MARKETING THE BUSINESS. THE INTERNET DIDN'T STOP VISITING.”

A couple of weeks ago, The Unemployed CEO™ made a dangerous decision.

He stopped pushing Kasi Connect.

No daily promotional campaign.

No desperate “PLEASE LIST YOUR BUSINESS!” speeches.

No flooding every WhatsApp group.

No pretending that every click meant somebody was about to invest R10 million.

😂😂😂

He simply stepped back.

And watched.

---

🧔🏾 THE RICHJERK™ ARRIVES

RichJerk™ looked at me and said:

> “Wait. You're building a startup and you STOPPED marketing it?”

The Unemployed CEO™ replied:

> “Yes.”

RichJerk™ nearly dropped his imaginary investment portfolio.

😂

> “WHY?”

Because I wanted to ask a simple question:

🤔 CAN KASI CONNECT RUN WITHOUT ME CONSTANTLY PUSHING IT?

Not forever.

Not as a permanent marketing strategy.

This was an experiment.

A small period of silence.

A test of whether the platform has started developing independent discoverability.

Because there is a difference between:

📣 Traffic you personally drag onto a website

and

🔎 Traffic the internet discovers on its own.

---

📊 SO WHAT HAPPENED?

The latest seven-day numbers showed:

👥 62 visitors

👀 91 page views

📄 1.47 views per visit

📉 86% bounce rate

Now before RichJerk™ starts shouting:

> “DISASTER! SELL THE COMPANY!”

😂

Let's look at what actually matters.

I had deliberately reduced promotional activity.

Yet:

🌐 Google still sent visitors.

🔵 Facebook-related traffic still appeared.

🔎 Bing showed up.

📱 Direct traffic continued.

The platform didn't disappear when I stopped shouting about it.

That matters.

---

🔎 GOOGLE SAID: “I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE.”

The numbers included:

📍 Direct — 36 visitors

🔎 Google — 18 visitors

🔵 Facebook-related sources — multiple visits

🔍 Bing — 2 visitors

Now listen carefully.

18 Google visitors may not sound like Silicon Valley.

😂

But the experiment wasn't:

> “Can I become rich in seven days?”

The experiment was:

> “Can the platform still be discovered when I am not actively marketing it?”

And the answer appears to be:

Yes. To some extent.

The Kasi Connect site currently exposes township services and location-based discovery pages, including categories such as plumbers, salons, mechanics, food vendors and internet cafés, alongside township browsing.

That means the long-term game is bigger than posting another Facebook advertisement.

It is about building digital roads that people can eventually travel without the founder standing in the road waving a flag.

😂

---

🧔🏾 THE RICHJERK™ LOOKED AT THE BOUNCE RATE

RichJerk™:

> “86% bounced!”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “Yes.”

RichJerk™:

> “THEN WHY ARE YOU SMILING?”

Because an honest founder doesn't hide the ugly number.

The bounce rate is a problem.

Full stop.

🚨 86% means we have work to do.

But here's the interesting question:

Why did they arrive in the first place?

Before improving retention, navigation and conversion...

you need somebody to arrive.

And during a period of reduced promotion:

👥 people still arrived.

That is not victory.

But it is evidence.

---

🗺️ WHERE DID THEY GO?

The homepage received:

🏠 43 visitors

But then the internet started exploring other corners.

Including:

🏪 Spaza Shops

🛒 Cart

📍 Vosloorus

📍 Ntuzuma

🍔 Food Vendors

💻 Internet Cafés

📚 Tutoring

🧹 Cleaning Services

Now THAT interests The Internet Deal Broker™.

Because the homepage is not the only door anymore.

People are finding specific roads.

Specific services.

Specific townships.

The directory model is designed around that basic discovery behaviour: what do you need, and where do you need it?

---

🌍 THEN THE INTERNATIONAL CROWD ARRIVED AGAIN

🇺🇸 United States — 26

🇿🇦 South Africa — 20

🇨🇳 China — 9

🇳🇱 Netherlands — 2

🇵🇰 Pakistan — 1

RichJerk™ immediately stood up.

> “GLOBAL EXPANSION!”

The Unemployed CEO™ said:

> “Sit down, Steve.”

😂😂😂

I still don't have enough verified evidence to explain all of that traffic.

And I'm not going to manufacture a success story.

Traffic can come from many sources.

Search.

Shares.

Referrals.

Bots.

Tools.

International discovery.

The correct engineering response is:

> Observe first. Investigate second. Claim later.

---

🧠 THE REAL EXPERIMENT

This wasn't about abandoning marketing.

It was about testing the foundation.

Because if Kasi Connect can only receive visitors when:

The Unemployed CEO™ wakes up...

opens Facebook...

writes another post...

begs another WhatsApp group...

and sacrifices another megabyte of mobile data...

😂😂😂

...then we haven't built digital infrastructure.

We've built Puseletso-powered traffic.

And that is not scalable.

---

🏗️ THE QUESTION IS BIGGER THAN TRAFFIC

Can a township business platform become independently discoverable?

Can a plumber in Soweto eventually be found without me personally sharing the link?

Can someone searching for a service land directly on a useful page?

Can a business owner build a digital footprint that continues working after they put their phone down?

That is the experiment.

And it connects directly to why township business directories exist in the first place: to organise businesses around discoverability, services and locations. Other township-focused platforms are also pursuing similar models around online visibility and local discovery.

---

🏪 BUT THE BUSINESS STILL NEEDS YOU

Here's the uncomfortable truth.

A directory cannot discover a business that isn't properly represented.

Business owners still need to:

🏪 List the business

📞 Provide accurate contact information

📍 Add the correct location

🛠️ Describe their service clearly

📸 Build a credible profile

🔄 Keep information updated

Kasi Connect is continuing to build pages around services and township discovery across South Africa.

---

😂 THEN THE DATABASE INTERRUPTED THE EXPERIMENT

Because apparently the internet was not enough drama.

While I was testing whether the platform could survive without constant marketing...

PostgreSQL was still sitting in the corner like:

> “What about those migrations, boss?”

😂😂😂

The verified Production situation remained serious:

⚠️ 11 migrations pending

⚠️ Live schema had not yet fully advanced.

⚠️ A Production data constraint was still blocking migration replay.

Meanwhile:

✅ TypeScript checks passed

✅ Production build passed

✅ Security findings previously identified were addressed

🔐 Leaked-password protection was enabled

📦 Test environment backup was completed and verified

But here's the important part:

A successful frontend build is not the same thing as a fully verified Production deployment.

And we will not pretend otherwise.

---

🧔🏾 THE RICHJERK™ SAID:

> “Why tell people about your technical problems?”

The Unemployed CEO™ replied:

> “Because one day I want customers to trust what I say when I tell them something actually works.”

😂

The easiest startup report to write is:

> 🚀 EVERYTHING IS AMAZING!

The useful report says:

📈 Here is the traffic.

📉 Here is the bounce rate.

🔎 Here is what we don't understand.

🚨 Here is what is technically blocked.

🛠️ Here is what we're working on.

That is building in public.

Not pretending in public.

---

📱 THE DEVICE STORY ALSO CHANGED

This week:

🖥️ Desktop — 62.9%

📱 Mobile — 37.1%

Now that's interesting for a township-focused platform.

Previously, mobile traffic was dominant.

This time, desktop led.

RichJerk™:

> “THE MARKET HAS SHIFTED!”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “It's 62 visitors, Steve. Drink water.”

😂😂😂

Small datasets can reveal clues.

But they can also create illusions.

So we watch the trend.

Week after week.

---

💰 THE INTERNET DEAL BROKER™ QUESTION

The Internet Deal Broker™ doesn't simply ask:

> “How many visitors?”

He asks:

🔎 What were they looking for?

📍 Which township page did they reach?

🛠️ Which service attracted attention?

📱 Where did they come from?

❌ Why did they leave?

💬 Did they contact a business?

🛒 Did discovery eventually become a transaction?

Because traffic is not the business.

Traffic is a clue.

The business opportunity may exist in what happens next:

Discovery

Enquiry

Communication

Trust

Transaction

Delivery

Data

Intelligence

That is the road I'm watching.

---

😂 THE FINAL RICHJERK™ EXCHANGE

RichJerk™:

> “So you stopped marketing for a couple of weeks?”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “Correct.”

RichJerk™:

> “And only 62 people visited?”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “Correct.”

RichJerk™:

> “And 86% bounced?”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “Correct.”

RichJerk™:

> “And you're publishing this?”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “Of course.”

RichJerk™:

> “Why?”

The Unemployed CEO™:

> “Because if the experiment is only interesting when the numbers look good, then it wasn't an experiment. It was advertising.”

😂😂😂😂

---

🗺️ THE BIG QUESTION

The next phase isn't simply:

> “How do we get more traffic?”

It's:

> “Can Kasi Connect become increasingly useful and discoverable without requiring the founder to personally push every visitor through the front door?”

That's the test.

Not independence from marketing.

But a move toward digital discoverability that compounds over time.

One indexed page.

One township.

One service.

One business listing.

One useful search result at a time.
