Sabatha Alka Kgang, professionally known as Jah Sabbatical, is a highly versatile, award-winning South African singer, songwriter, and entertainer with over 25 years of experience in the music industry. Hailing from Kanana, Orkney, and currently making major waves across the West Rand, Jah Sabbatical has mastered a rich blend of genres including Reggae Dancehall/Tswancehall, Hip-Hop, Motswako, R&B, and Traditional/Cultural music. Musical Journey & AchievementsJah Sabbatical’s musical roots began at the age of 11 in 1989, singing with the internationally acclaimed Clap n Tap gospel choir, Bana ba Mesia. By high school, he had transitioned into hip-hop before discovering his deep passion for live reggae in 1998. This evolution led him to become a pioneering force behind the "Reggae Tswancehall" movement, performing reggae in local vernacular. His groundbreaking work was officially recognized in 2019 when he won the Best Reggae Dancehall Artist trophy at the Matlosana Music Awards for his acclaimed debut album, Ke Spane. Collaborative Projects & PerformancesA dynamic collaborator, Jah Sabbatical has been a driving force in several prominent musical collectives. In 2006, he co-founded The Gage, an Afro-pop/Ragga fusion group that became a dominant musical fixture in Merafong and earned frequent coverage in the Herald newspaper. Today, he continues to expand his collaborative footprint by working with top regional acts like King Tjwereza, Vibration Tailor, and the Luv Us Carwash crew, while also performing as a core member of the West Rand cultural music group, Bantu Gangsters.
